Yesterday I had read on the USS Enterprise Facebook page that they had a non-combat related death.  The NOK had been informed, and the Enterprise families and friends expressed their sympathies for the family of this sailor.  Today, the notification was released.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.  Petty Officer 1st Class Vincent A. Filpi III, 41, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died as a result of a non-combat related incident.  Filpi was assigned to USS Enterprise as an aviation ordnanceman.  Enterprise is currently deployed to the Fifth Fleet area of responsibility conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Further research online tonight reveals that this sailor leaves behind a wife, a son, and five additional stepchildren.

To the family and loved ones of this sailor, my deepest condolences go out to you.  Please know that the entire Enterprise family has you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
