Day 27 - What’s the best thing going for you right now?

I think the best things going for me, personally, are the resources and opportunities that have presented themselves.  I've been pretty straightforward about the financial difficulties that we've been having since we transitioned from Active Duty to Reserve status.  It hasn't been easy - it's been stressful, draining, and at times it's created some tension in our marriage.

One of the best resources we've had lately is my FIL, who lives with us.  He's been able to come to our rescue a couple of times, and does so without making us feel guilty or regretful of what we've had to do.  The opportunities that my job has presented have been great as well.  I've been doing (paid) duty at as many sporting events that I can.  The sign-ups came today for the winter sports season and I've put in to do the higher paying jobs as much as possible.  I've also taken on a home teaching position for a student who's temporarily medically unable to return to school.  I am with her for a minimum of 1.5 hours a day, four days a week.  I also do tutoring at the library once a week, through a program that assists homeless students in our district.  I haven't reaped the benefits of any of this extra work yet, but I'm hoping that December check is sizable.

Of course, everything's (hopefully) going to get a lot easier when DH starts his new job on Monday.  I'm not sure how much he's going to be making while in training, but every little bit helps.  I just hope he's happy with his decision to move forward on this job.

The other thing keeping me going is vacation!  The downside to both Thanksgiving break and winter break is that DH won't be able to join me, most likely.  Our district gives us a week off for Thanksgiving, which I'm really excited about.  FIL and I are heading down to Arizona to visit his side of the family.  T-Day itself will be spent at my Guncle's, with one of the being a chef!  Good food is sure to be had by all, in spades!  We're also going to head down to Yuma, where my Grandma lives and where my dad will most likely be for the holiday.  It'll be good to see all of them and to bomb around AZ with FIL.  Even better than Arizona?  Taking it south of the border for Christmas, in true P family tradition!  Five days of true paradise!
How many more days until this again?!
